Why Now Is the Time to Step Up: Join VSAC’s Board of Directors

At the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre (VSAC), we have always stood on the frontlines, advocating for survivors and working to end sexualized violence through healing, education, and prevention. But we can’t do this work alone. We need strong leadership, diverse voices, and passionate advocates to help guide the future of our organization.

This is why we are inviting you to consider joining our Board of Directors.

The Power of Leadership in a Time of Uncertainty

Being a Board member isn’t just about governance and meetings—it’s about ensuring that survivors continue to have a safe place to turn, that education and prevention efforts remain strong, and that VSAC can continue its vital work despite societal and political challenges.

We need people who are passionate about gender justice, equity, and community-building. People who believe that survivors deserve access to support without barriers. People who want to take action when rights and protections are at risk.

If this sounds like you, we encourage you to apply.

What It Means to Serve on the VSAC Board

As a Board Member, you will:

  • Commit to a two-year term, dedicating 3-4 hours a week to Board meetings, strategic planning, and committee work.
  • Join one of our key committees: Finance, People & Culture, or Governance and Recruitment.
  • Help shape the vision of VSAC, ensuring it continues to serve survivors in the most effective and compassionate way possible.
  • Support VSAC’s Executive Director and staff, strengthening the partnership between leadership and the broader organization.
  • Work to increase equity, diversity, and inclusion within our organization and in the community.
  • Ensure financial health and sustainability by reviewing budgets and supporting fundraising efforts.

Who We Are Looking For

We strive to create a Board that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. We especially encourage applications from:

  • Those with experience in justice/legal fields, finance, accounting, organizational development, or governance

That said, if you are passionate about our mission, we want to hear from you. Your lived experiences, skills, and commitment matter more than specific titles or degrees.
