About Us

The Victoria Sexual Assault Centre (VSAC) is a feminist organization committed to ending sexualized violence through healing, education, and prevention. We support women and all trans survivors of sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse through advocacy, counselling, and empowerment.


The Role

We are seeking new Board Directors who are committed to supporting VSAC’s work.

To reflect the diversity of the community we serve, we aim for the Board to include voices from historically and persistently underrepresented and marginalized communities.

We especially encourage applications from:

  • Indigenous, Black, and People of Colour

  • Persons with disabilities

  • LGBQ+ individuals

  • Two-Spirit, Trans, and Gender-Diverse persons

We also welcome applicants with the skills and knowledge to engage respectfully and supportively with diverse communities.


Guiding Principles

We honour and are guided by:

  • The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Calls to Justice

  • The Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action

  • The British Columbia Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act


What to Expect as a Board Member

  • Serve a two-year term as a Board Director

  • Commit approximately 3–4 hours per week

  • Attend monthly Board meetings (1.5 hours)

  • Participate in one Board committee: Finance, People & Culture, or Governance & Recruitment

Board members also:

  • Support and guide the Executive Director

  • Uphold equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) policies

  • Contribute to strategic planning and governance

  • Approve budgets and financial statements

  • Support fundraising and financial sustainability

  • Build strong relationships and mentor new Board members

  • Fulfill obligations under VSAC’s constitution and by-laws


What You Bring

  • Understanding of VSAC’s mission, values, beliefs, and goals

  • Knowledge of the root causes of sexualized violence

  • Ability to work within anti-oppressive, decolonizing, and EDI frameworks

  • Understanding of Board governance (or willingness to learn)

  • Experience building community through networking

  • Strong communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

  • Diplomacy and collaboration skills


Ideal Experience (Assets)

Experience in any of the following areas is considered an asset:

  • Justice / Legal

  • Finance or Accounting

  • Anti-racism

  • Strategic Planning

  • Organizational Development and Governance


Additional Ways to Get Involved

If a full Board role is not currently feasible, consider Committee Volunteer opportunities.

Committee volunteers:

  • Join one of VSAC’s Board committees (Finance, People & Culture, Governance & Recruitment)

  • Attend one meeting per month

  • Contribute a few additional hours as needed
