We’re Hiring: Volunteer Coordinator
Victoria Sexual Assault Centre (VSAC) is hiring a Volunteer Coordinator to lead and support our volunteer program in Victoria, BC.
Volunteers are an essential part of Victoria Sexual Assault Centre’s work. They bring their time, skills, care, and commitment to supporting our programs, clients, and community.
We’re looking for an organized, collaborative, and people-focused person to coordinate our volunteer program and help create meaningful, supportive, and well-structured volunteer experiences.
About the Volunteer Coordinator position
The Volunteer Coordinator plans, implements, and oversees the day-to-day activities of VSAC’s Volunteer Program. Working closely with the Clinic and Access Coordinator and other VSAC staff, this position supports volunteer recruitment, training, scheduling, supervision, evaluation, engagement, and recognition.
The role also contributes to program development, policy and procedure development, evaluation, reporting, budgeting, and community engagement.

Wage: JJEP Wage Grid Level 12, Step 1 — $30.95/hour
Hours: 28 hours per week, Monday–Friday, with evening and weekend work required
Union: This position requires BCGEU membership

What you’ll do
As Volunteer Coordinator, you’ll coordinate volunteer opportunities across Victoria Sexual Assault Centre, including Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) volunteers, Senior SART volunteers, office volunteers, and event volunteers.
Key responsibilities include:
Recruiting, interviewing, screening, orienting, training, supervising, evaluating, and recognizing VSAC volunteers
Coordinating SART volunteer training, including training materials, facilitation guides, homework, exams, and ongoing training
Scheduling volunteers and supporting SART shift coverage when needed
Supporting the development of new volunteer programs and opportunities
Maintaining volunteer files, statistics, records, and the Better Impact volunteer database
Coordinating volunteer meetings, trainings, social events, and appreciation activities
Supporting volunteer recruitment and community outreach opportunities
Acting as a liaison between VSAC staff and volunteers
Working with VSAC’s Resource Development and Communications team to promote volunteer opportunities and volunteer contributions
Building and maintaining relationships with outside organizations that support the volunteer program
Preparing reports and monitoring spending within the volunteer program budget
Participating in committees, working groups, policy and procedure reviews, and other Centre activities
The position also provides SART shift coverage when volunteers or auxiliary staff are unavailable and may provide debriefing support to SART volunteers when other appropriate staff are unavailable.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone with strong communication and organizational skills who can build positive relationships with volunteers while coordinating a complex, people-focused program.
Applicants should have:
A diploma in Volunteer Management and/or a social service-related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Two years of recent related experience in volunteer program coordination, training development, and facilitation, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Strong program coordination, development, and evaluation skills
Experience screening, providing feedback to, and assessing volunteers
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with technology, including the ability to create documents, flyers, spreadsheets, and other program materials
Knowledge of volunteerism and adult education, including personal experience as a volunteer
A strong understanding of feminist anti-oppressive practice and inclusive frameworks
A strong understanding of intersectional approaches to sexualized violence
Experience in the community social services sector is an asset. Experience with large training models and completion of Sexual Assault Response Team training are also assets.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a sound understanding of sexualized violence and its root causes, feminism, inclusion, anti-oppressive practice, and decolonial practice, and to apply these principles appropriately in their work with clients, volunteers, colleagues, and community partners.
