Pride is a time to celebrate the strength, resilience, and joy of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, while recognizing the years of struggle for representation and the continued work toward equity and inclusion.
Creating communities where people feel respected and like they belong means working to remove the barriers that tell people otherwise. It means making space for people to show up as themselves and know that they are part of a community.
This summer, VSAC had the opportunity to celebrate alongside our community at two Pride events on lək̓ʷəŋən territories.
Pride in James Bay

On July 12, we spent the day at Pride in James Bay Park, connecting with community members and sharing more about the work we do at VSAC.
Around 100 people stopped by our booth throughout the day to learn more about our services, chat with our team, and take on our Jenga trivia challenge. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces and meet new members of the community.
We were also excited to see two of our staff members perform with the choir. Seeing our colleagues share their talents and celebrate alongside the community made the day feel especially meaningful.
Celebrating TransPride
On August 15, we joined the community again at TransPride at Cedar Hill Recreation Centre as one of the community resource tables. Throughout the event, we had the opportunity to share VSAC resources and connect with community members while enjoying an incredible lineup of performances, drag, spoken word, poetry, and singing.
Events like these provide an opportunity to connect beyond the services VSAC provides - to listen, build relationships, and celebrate the people and communities we are here to support. We are grateful to everyone who stopped by our tables, shared a conversation, participated in our activities, or simply said hello.
A big thank you to our board members, volunteers, staff, and everyone who helped make these events possible. We loved being part of Pride this summer and look forward to celebrating with our community again next year!
