A Day Where the Community Comes Alive

On race day at the Triathlon of Compassion, the course doesn’t just host a race—it becomes a shared space of movement, encouragement, and connection.

You’ll hear the buzz before you even reach transition: bikes clicking into place, volunteers calling out numbers, families finding their cheering spots, and athletes taking those final deep breaths before the start.

This is not just a triathlon. It’s a community showing up for each other—on and off the course.

Every lap, every cheer, and every finish line moment supports the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre (VSAC) and the critical work they do for survivors in our community.

The Swim: Where Race Day Begins

Triathlon of Compassion Swimming

The Triathlon of Compassion starts in the water, where anticipation builds in those quiet moments before the first stroke. Athletes gather at the start line, settle into place, and take in the energy around them—supporters on shore, volunteers guiding the start, and the steady hum of a community ready to cheer them on. Depending on the category and age group, athletes take on different swim distances, but the feeling at the start is shared by everyone: focus, nerves, excitement, and forward motion. Then, together, they’re in motion. The swim is focused and powerful—a shared beginning that marks the shift from preparation to race day reality. From that first stroke forward, the day is underway, and the journey toward the finish line has truly begun.

The Adult Bike Course: Where the Energy Builds Lap by Lap

The adult bike course is a loop—and that matters more than it sounds.

Athletes will complete 8 laps of a 2.5 km circuit, which means the race never feels far away from the crowd. You’ll see familiar faces each time you pass through, and that steady rhythm of looping turns into its own kind of momentum.

For spectators, this is where the energy really builds: riders flying by again and again, encouragement echoing through each pass, and that growing sense that everyone is moving together.

Then, after the final lap, athletes head back into transition—already carrying the momentum of the run ahead.

The Adult Run Course: Simple, Scenic, and Supportive

The run takes athletes out from transition and toward Buxton Green by MacAulay Point, where they turn and head back.

It’s a straightforward out-and-back route, but what makes it special is the visibility—you’re never far from encouragement. Athletes pass others heading in the opposite direction, exchange quick nods of support, and hear cheers carry along the course.

It’s the kind of run where fatigue meets community energy—and usually, community wins.

Youth Bike Course: Confidence in Motion

For younger athletes, the bike course is where confidence starts to show.

Each lap is 2 km, and the number of laps grows with age—from just one loop for the youngest athletes up to six for older youth participants.

What stands out here isn’t just distance—it’s growth. You see kids settle into their rhythm, learn the course, and come around each loop a little more confident than the last.

And always, there’s someone watching. Cheering. Counting laps. Waiting for that proud moment when they fly past one more time.

Youth Run Course: One Finish Line, Many Achievements

The youth run brings everyone toward the same finish line energy, but at different distances that match their age and ability.

Some athletes sprint out and are back almost before you’ve caught your breath. Others build steady pace, determined to reach their turnaround point and make the journey back strong.

What they all share is the same finish: that final stretch where everything opens up—cheers get louder, footsteps get faster, and every athlete hears their name called across the line.

Part of Something Bigger: The Youth Tri Series

The Triathlon of Compassion is part of the Lumina Orthodontics Greater Victoria Youth Triathlon Series, alongside two other Vancouver Island races.

For many youth athletes, this is more than a single event—it’s a summer of showing up, improving, and discovering what they’re capable of.

Those who complete all three races earn a well-deserved Race Series Hoodie, but what they really take away is confidence that lasts far beyond race season.

Why This Race Matters

Behind every lap and finish line moment is a deeper purpose.

The Triathlon of Compassion raises funds for the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre (VSAC), helping ensure survivors in our community have access to:

  • Trauma-informed counselling

  • Crisis support and advocacy

  • Prevention education

  • Safe, compassionate care

Every participant—whether racing, volunteering, fundraising, or cheering—becomes part of that impact.

Ways to Be Part of Race Day

You don’t have to race to belong here.

You can:

  • Sign up and race — and experience the course from within

  • Fundraise — and directly support VSAC services

  • Volunteer — and become the steady presence that keeps race day moving

  • Come cheer — and be the energy athletes carry through every lap

Every role matters. Every presence is felt.

Race Day Snapshot

The Finish Line Is Shared

At its core, the Triathlon of Compassion isn’t just about finishing a race.

It’s about what happens when a community chooses to show up—together—for something that matters.

Whether you’re racing hard, volunteering early, or cheering loud at the corners, you are part of that story.

We’ll see you on course.
