Why Volunteers Are the Heart of the Triathlon of Compassion

Every year, hundreds of athletes, families, supporters, and community members come together for the Triathlon of Compassion. While participants may be the most visible part of race day, there is another group working behind the scenes that makes the event possible: our volunteers.

TOC Volunteers

As the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre's signature fundraising event, the Triathlon of Compassion has united our community for more than 30 years. The event raises vital funds to support survivors of sexualized violence while creating opportunities for people to come together around compassion, healing, and hope.

None of this would happen without the incredible volunteers who generously donate their time, energy, and enthusiasm.

More Than a Race

On race day, volunteers help create a safe, organized, and welcoming experience for everyone involved. From the first athlete arriving in the morning to the final participant crossing the finish line, volunteers are there every step of the way.

Volunteers play a huge role in the TOC event.

Volunteer roles include:

  • Swim course support

  • Bike and run course marshals

  • Transition area volunteers

  • Registration and check-in support

  • Finish line assistance

  • Event set-up and tear-down

  • Photography and participant support

Whether directing athletes along the course, cheering participants on, or helping behind the scenes, every volunteer plays an important role in the event's success.

Creating Community Through Compassion

What makes the Triathlon of Compassion unique is the purpose behind it.

Every volunteer contributes to something larger than a race. By helping create a successful event, volunteers support fundraising efforts that help the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre continue providing essential services, education, advocacy, and support for survivors in our community.

Many volunteers return year after year because they value the opportunity to make a tangible difference while being part of an inspiring and welcoming community event.

The impact of their contribution extends far beyond race day.
